My journey into Occupational Therapy actually started with Social Work Studies.

I started at University in 2008 and spent a year studying social work; at first I loved the idea of it being so gritty and different everyday, but I soon learnt that it wasn't to be the career for me.
Although I enjoyed the problem solving there didn't seem too be much of a 'connection' between patient and professional. I craved more of a conversation and time to learn about the patient in question. I wanted to learn about their wants and needs.

I started looking for a new course and I found Occupational Therapy!

I had never heard of it before, and even though it seemed strange at first and more like a 'pick and mix' of other professionals joined together I just instantly loved the idea of getting to be so versatile and helping people everyday to become independent and occupationally balanced.

Through my time at university my passion has grown to no end, especially during practice placements where I get to hit the ground running with my new skills!

Now its three years later and I have never looked back; I love every moment and savour the fact that I'll never be able to stop learning or being creative. Most importantly I'll have opportunity to connect with diverse people everyday of my working life.

To be continued...
